Adler Planetarium Cosmic Wonder Presentation
[latexpage]
Many of the communities that participated in the $L^{3}$ program took field trips to the Adler Planetarium as a capstone to their astronomy and physics courses. Each group took a chartered (yellow school)-bus to the Adler in the morning, guided by Prof. Grin. The highlight of each visit was an hourlong session in the Space Visualization lab in which participants guided a discussion led by a professional astrophysicist, calling up images and movies(two and three-dimensional) of data, images, schematics relating to topics in astronomy on a variety of length scales, from our own solar system to the whole universe. The next stop on our tour was a viewing of the planetarium show Cosmic Wonder, a magnificent tour through the history of human astronomy and the cosmos itself, using the Microsoft Worldwide Telescope to showcase stellar nurseries, gravitational lensing, and some of the most distant galaxies in the universe.
