Dark Matter: Blowing Bubbles

Hugh Lippincott is on the front lines of the experimental hunt to directly detect dark matter. After summarizing the astronomical evidence for this elusive and mysterious substance, Hugh reviews the physics of dark matter (what it isn’t and what it might be), using the opportunity to give us a crash course in particle physics. He then tells us how he and his collaborators at FermiLab are using microphones and sound to listen for evidence of dark matter (rarely) interacting with ordinary matter, using super-heated fluids! You can hear the difference between dark matter and ordinary matter, and Hugh tells us how!
