Evan Shockley

Evan grew up in Omaha, Nebraska where he spent most of his time playing ice hockey. His love of hockey led him to Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota for college, where he also found a passion for science. By the end of college, the science geek triumphed over the hockey jock and he decided to go on to graduate school in physics. He’s now a PhD student at the University of Chicago, where he works on an experiment called XENON1T that’s trying to detect dark matter – an abundant substance that has eluded detection thus far. In his limited free time he continues his hockey career in a mens league in the Chicago suburbs.
